Butyl Rubber Pond Liner - 0.75mm

Genuine Butyl Rubber pond liner is still the best material for lining a garden pond or Koi pool. It should not be confused with other rubber pond liners such as Firestone Rubber (often wrongly sold as butyl) which is a cheaper inferior pond liner.

The polymer butyl (IIR - isobutylene isoprene - rubber) is an elastomer with a small number of double bonds, produced through co-polymerisation of isobutylene and isoprene.

In addition to the base polymer, Butyl Rubber Pond Liner contains reinforcing carbon black, fillers, process chemicals, antioxidants and vulcanising agents. After mixing the ingredients into a homogenous plastic compound, two layers of the rubber are rolled out in a calender to form a double sheet. Vulcanisation is then carried out. The long rubber molecules in the material are cross-linked through heat and pressure, creating an elastic membrane.

The vulcanisation process means that the material differs from all thermoplastic products, in that its properties are not affected by varying temperatures. Butyl rubber pond liner is chemically stable and always returns to its original dimensions after stretching.

The cross-linked molecular structure gives Butyl rubber pond liner its unique properties. Ageing or changes in characteristics are negligible despite decades of exposure to the atmosphere, sunlight, UV radiation, chemical fallout, water or major temperature fluctuations.


BUTYL RUBBER POND LINER IS CHEMICALLY STABLE

Butyl rubber pond liner contain no plasticisers or additives which can evaporate or be washed out over the years. The strength and elasticity of the butyl rubber pond liner membrane remain practically unchanged for decades, without shrinkage, brittleness, melting or cracking. The membrane is equally elastic, regardless of whether the temperature is -30°C or +120°C.

Due to its weight any liner larger than 16 squ. metres will be sent direct from our suppliers and upto 7 working days must be allowed for delivery. Callers can collect from our premises as liners are normally available from stock.
