Colombo Ammonia Test Kit NH3 Catalog No: 880190 Suitable For Testing Tropical, Coldwater Aquariums And Ponds - 40 Tests Per Box
Why Test Ammonia is excreted by fish directly into the water, and is also released from the breakdown of solid waste and uneaten food. Ammonia is highly toxic to fish, but is usually removed from the water by the bacteria which live inside the filter. The only way to know what the ammonia level is, is by testing the water with an Ammonia test kit. Regular testing, especially in new ponds, will prevent damage caused by ammonia poisoning.
Ammonia (NH3) is very harmful and can cause immediate mortality and diseases. High levels of ammonia can occur in new aquaria, with filter problems and when maintaining high stock levels. When the ammonia level exceed 0,15 mg/ litre, immediately change 50% of the water, after this change 25% of the water daily until the ammonia level is under 0,15 mg/ litre. Add Zeolite to your filter, this absorbs ammonia direct. Immediately discontinue feeding.
It is worth remembering that ammonia becomes more toxic at higher pH levels.
How to Test In order to test the pH level, simply take a sample of pond water in a jug, and then use some of this to wash out the test vial. 1. Fill the vial to the 5ml mark 2. Add 5 drops of reaction liquid No 1, 5 drops of reaction liquid No2 and 5 drops of reaction liquid No 3, close vial and shake vigorously 3. Wait 10 minutes and compare the colour of the sample with the colour scale that you can find on the packaging.
